Salgaocar FC hammer 12 past Verna SC in GFA U14 league

Cansaulim : Salgaocar FC juniors started their U14 campaign on a rousing note with a 12-0 demolition of Verna SC courtesy 5 goals from Kenneth Da Costa, a brace each by Josbern Cardozo and Movin Gauncar and goals from Antush Moniz, Meldon Oliveira and Melroy Borges. The Greens who were led by lanky stopper back Kyle D’Cruz, were 4 goals to the good at the breather.

It was one-way traffic right from the outset with Merryston Fernandes under the Salgaocar bar having to make one save of a free-kick from Jason Vas through the entire game. Such was the dominance of the Greens, that had their forwards not been wasteful and erratic in front of goal, the score could have swelled even further.

The Greens attacked the opposition goal in the very 1st minute after Ryan Fernandes and Antush Moniz combined beautifully to waltz past a host of Verna players. Joywin D’Costa and Meldon Oliveira then got into the act with the last named failing to score from close range. Chances kept coming thick and fast and Joywin could have scored twice in the next couple of minutes, first after being put through on goal by Antush and seconds later of an inch perfect corner from Meldon. The Greens did break the deadlock however in the 9th minute as Kenneth Da Costa hammered home after the Verna defense failed to deal effectively with a corner taken by Ryan.

2 minutes later the lead was doubled as Kenneth scored his second of the evening, his shot from the top of the box on the left nestling into the top corner at the far post, leaving the Verna keeper routed to the ground. By the 15th minute of the game, Kenneth had completed a fine and well-deserved hat-trick. Frazer Viegas made a strong run after collecting the ball around the centre circle and played a delightful through ball for Kenneth who calmly slotted past an advancing keeper. It didn’t end with the hat-trick as Kenneth made it 4 of 4 when he found the back of the net yet again in the 27th minute after being assisted by Antush who headed a goal kick into the path of the former who drove right into the box and hammered home.

The change of ends saw the Greens add 8 more goals to their first half tally. The first of those came in the 39th minute as Antush found himself in the thick of things yet again as he very unselfishly played Meldon through on goal for the last named to slot home from inside the box. 3 minutes later Melroy Borges was at hand to score with his first touch of the game as he had only just got on to the pitch seconds earlier. Antush played the ball out wide to Movin Gaunkar who found Melroy in the box to bury home.

In the 45th minute, Josbern Cardozo found himself on the score sheet as he stole the ball just outside the penalty area, smartly sidestepped his man and found the back of the net with a power packed effort. Kenneth then turned provider as a quick ball played out of defense saw him make a strong run down the left and find Movin in the box, who smartly rounded the keeper to score. Movin then scored his second of the evening as No 7 found him with an inch perfect cross from the right.

It was then the turn of Antush to get in on the act as Kenneth relayed the ball to Ryan who in turn found an unmarked Antush lurking around the penalty spot to score for his side’s 10th at the hour mark. Kenneth then scored his 5th of the evening as Antush made a run down the right and sent in a measured cross for Kenneth to head home. Deep into stoppage time Josbern scored his second of the evening and his side’s 12th after being fed by Kenneth on the edge of the box. He dribbled his way into the box and finished in fine style.
