Salgaocar Football Club partner The King’s School; organise football festival to mark the launch Salgaocar Football Club in association with The King’s school organised a football festival to mark the beginning of the coming together of the two in a mutually beneficial relationship. At a colourful opening, Ms. Swati Salgaocar, Vice President - Youth Development, Salgaocar FC, Mr. Adlear D’Cruz (General Secretary, Salgaocar FC) on behalf of the Vasco based club and Mr. Melvin Pereira (Chairman, The King’s School) and Mrs. Ligia Pereira (Director, The King’s School) representing the institute, unfurled The King’s School and Salgaocar FC’s flags respectively. The jerseys of the school’s various teams for the upcoming year were also unveiled on the occasions and shall sport the Salgaocar FC logo. The King’s School will be the club’s third partner school, with Loyola High School and Marina English High School being the other 2. Salgaocar FC, founded in 1956 by the late Mr. V.M. Salgaocar with the objective of developing Goan football and promoting local talent has had Youth Development at the core of it’s philosophy and not surprisingly therefore, the club’s setup is widely regarded as one of the best in the country and has come in for praise from several quarters, including the Asian Football Confederation. The King’s School is one of Goa’s premier institutions and first full-fledged CBSE (New Delhi) affiliated English medium co-educational Senior Secondary School in Goa, located in Sao Jose de Areal, Salcette. It has a sprawling campus and provides excellent education from Nursery to Senior Secondary level. The goal is to provide students with a holistic education that will not only make learning fun and enriching, but will hold them in good stead in the years to come. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Swati Salgaocar remarked, “We are lucky to have found in The King’s School a like-minded partner who shares our vision of holistic development from a young age. For all the budding footballers present here – whether they go on to choose football as a profession or pursue it for recreation, the qualities of teamwork, discipline and resilience will hold good throughout their lives and we are pleased that these are the qualities that are stressed upon here at The King’s School by its Management and Staff alike.” Salgaocar FC shall assist with the football development of the school’s teams and will hope the success with it’s other partner schools can be replicated. The club’s entire first team, players and technical staff alike including Head Coach Derrick Pereira, were all in attendance at the event, and were seen interacting with the kids through the evening. “Our partnership with Salgaocar Football Club highlights our emphasis on fitness and sports for our students. We are glad to have their expertise and the opportunities they would provide our talented students. At The King’s School, we are wholeheartedly committed to an all-round development of our students and always want to offer them with the best we can”, exclaimed Mr. Melvin Pereira. Additionally, the kids from the school will also be taken to the Club’s home games in the I—League, next of which is scheduled on April 19th against Sporting Clube de Goa. Over 250 children and parents were in attendance at The King’s School on Saturday to participate in the festival that witnessed fun and games aplenty. Salgaocar FC join the Celtic family
Salgaocar FC join the Celtic family, Celtic FC coach visits the club as part of joint initiative Vasco: Salgaocar Football Club is delighted to announce its association with Scottish and European giants, Celtic FC, in an endeavour to further build on the club’s impressive youth development system. Salgaocar FC, have over the years laid strong emphasis on youth development and it is no surprise therefore that it is widely regarded as one of the best in the country. This is evident from the number of players who have over the years come through the ranks to eventually play for the first team. With the introduction of the AIFF club licensing criteria more recently, most clubs are required to pay attention to their youth development, at Salgaocar FC it’s always been extending beyond the bare minimum, as far as youth development is concerned. The past year in particular has seen further steps introduced to enhance the system, with the youth teams and coaches working closely with their senior counterparts. Commenting on the partnership Salgaocar FC President, Mr. Shivanand V. Salgaocar commented, “We at Salgaocar FC are delighted to be closely associated with Celtic FC.” "At the heart of this relationship is a shared philosophy that is devoted to the promotion and development of young, local talent. This is the beginning of what we hope to be a longstanding and highly fruitful association.” Celtic, winners of the first European Championship have a near unparalleled history. Unlike several other European giants that have over the years broken the bank to meet with success, Celtic has been known for it’s focus on developing and grooming young local talent. James Forrest is a fine example. Widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the Scottish game, the 23 year old joined Celtic's youth academy in 2003 and progressed through the ranks before making his debut in the 2009–10 season. He is an integral part of the current squad. Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “The Celtic International Club Partnership Programme is a very exciting programme for the Club and we are delighted to welcome Salgaocar FC to be part of it and to the Celtic family. "Celtic’s connection with India has been longstanding, however this is the first time we have developed a relationship with another professional club in this region. We are excited to see what can be developed from this unique relationship.” Celtic Soccer Academy Manager and coach of the club’s U-12 team, John McStay, was in Goa between the 8th and 12th of the month and spent time with the club’s first team, academy players to get a better understanding of the structure and coaching methodologies. He also spent time with the 500+ kids from the club’s Community Outreach Program held at Chicalim Panchayat Ground. Salgaocar’s juniors have put in some stellar performances this season with the U-19s having annexed the GFA Third Division title, having score a mammoth 64 goals through the campaign in addition to having qualified for the final leg of the U-19 I-League from the Goa zone.

The mobile app is designed by YouFoot Ltd, and it features the News, Features and Interviews listed in the official website – – as well as add-ons like the Results & Fixtures, the points table, polls, and also LIVE Commentary during the matches. There is also the added advantage of getting LIVE PUSH Notifications of your favourite Hero I-League Clubs during the game, and keeping yourself updated with all the instant updates of the game actions – goals, bookings, and so on. Mr. Kushal Das, General-Secretary, AIFF, said, “Launching the mobile app for the I-League was one of the several initiatives taken by the AIFF for the further promotion of Indian Football as a whole. “Connecting with a wider fanbase was definitely the drive for this initiative and I hope the mobile app will be happily welcomed by the I-League fans and it will strengthen the fanbase of the competition.” Sunando Dhar, CEO, I-League, echoed the same, saying, “Keeping with the times, we decided to expand the I-League in the digital space. The first step was the re-designing of our website. Retaining our existing fanbase and getting the newer generation hooked on to Indian football was one of the motivations to start our official mobile application. “We hope that along with facebook and twitter, the mobile app will play a significant part in helping these fans and followers of Indian football get more updates and information of their favourite Hero I-League Clubs.” Hero I-League is the Premier Club Football Competition of India, which started in 2007, after the disbanding of the National Football League (NFL).
