Salgaocar FC complete signing of Martin Scott!
Vasco: Salgaocar FC will have in their ranks a Scottish trio for the upcoming campaign. After extending the contract of striker Darryl Duffy and roping in Malky Thomson as Head Coach, the club today announced the signing of attacking midfielder Martin Scott on a year-long contract. Not only will this be Martin’s first stint in the Indian sub-continent, but is coincidentally his first move away from Scotland, with close to 175 league appearances. The 29-year old is a product of the Livingston academy which also happens to be his hometown club. He made his Scottish Premier League debut against Rangers at Ibrox in 2005 and thereafter spent the next 5 years at Ross County where he scored a memorable Scottish Cup semi-final winner against Celtic FC in 2010. He has since represented Hibernian and Raith Rovers in addition to having had a second spell at both, Livingston and Ross County. "I am delighted to join Salgaocar FC a club which I have heard a lot of about from the coach Malky Thomson and a player I know very well who plays there, Darryl Duffy. I had several offers to play in the UK this season but when the discussion to move across to India came up and that too at Salgaocar FC who have a long history in football in India and in the I-League, I was very keen. I would like to thank the coach and the management at Salgaocar FC for making this possible”, the player was quoted after signing on the dotted line for the Greens. “I can’t wait to get there and join my team mates to commence pre-season. I am looking forward to giving my best and challenging for the title”, he added. With the Goa Professional League regulations limiting the number of foreigners per team to two, the Greens will use the services of the Scottish duo for the State league and possibly explore the option of adding the 2 other foreigners closer to the start of the I-League campaign. Salgaocar FC are the defending Champions of the Goa Pro League, having gone through last season’s campaign unbeaten. “We welcome Martin to the Salgaocar family and wish him a successful tenure at the club”, remarked club General Secretary, Mr. Adlear D’Cruz.
Salgaocar FC extend Duffy contract, retain core squad for upcoming season!
Vasco : Salgaocar FC have retained the services of Scottish striker Darryl Duffy, Indian International Augustin Fernandes (Atletico de Kolkata), left-back Gurjinder Kumar (Pune City FC) and long-serving midfielder Rocus Lamare who will return to spend his 12th consecutive year at the Vasco based club, for the upcoming season. Duffy, who will be donning the Green of Salgaocar for the third season running, is the club’s first foreign signing of the 2015-16 campaign. Having made a whirlwind start to his playing career in India, leading the goal-scoring charts with 14 goals in his first season in the I-League, Duffy added 7 more goals to his tally last year, which included the all-important final goal of the season that ensured the Greens’ survival in top flight. The Greens had signed Scottish gaffer Malcolm “Malky’ Thomson only a couple of weeks ago, and he is expected to touch down in Goa in a week’s time. Coincidentally, Malky, was at Rangers in a coaching role when Duffy was with the club as a youngster. “His (Malky’s) enthusiasm & love of the game is second to none. He's a top notch coach as well. I'm thoroughly looking forward to working with him and learning from him in the upcoming campaign. That was a big factor in my decision to come back to Salgaocar for another season. We are hoping for a successful and enjoyable campaign,” remarked Duffy. The Greens have also managed to retain the services of young talented shot-stopper Albino Gomes and right back Nicolau Colaco who were picked by Mumbai City FC and FC Goa franchises respectively, for the upcoming edition of the Indian Super League. The other players to have been retained by the club are Gilbert Oliveira, Rosario Mendes, Clifton Dias, Brian Mascarenhas, Aslon Oliveira, Leny Pereira, Pawan Kumar, Umesh Harijan and keeper Abhijit Das. While Duffy and Rocus are expected to join the squad in early August, Augustin, Gurjinder, Nicolau and Albino will return to the squad in January prior to the start of the I-League.
Salgaocar FC appoint Malky Thomson as Head coach for Season 2015-16
Salgaocar FC are delighted to announce the signing of Scottish gaffer, Malcolm Thomson, fondly known as Malky, as their new Head coach for the upcoming season. Malky brings to the table a wealth of coaching experience having worked with clubs such as Celtic, Rangers, Blackpool FC, Birmingham City, Limerick, Dundee United and Inverness. Speaking about his appointment, the 48-year old remarked, "I am looking to build on the great work that Salgaocar FC has done in the past. I am looking forward to coming over soon and adding value to the coaches, players and staff at the club. I have read and been told that Salgaocar FC is one of the most professional teams in India with a long history.” "I am really looking forward to the challenge. India is a developing football nation and it should be a very exciting challenge,’ he added. "I do know Darryl Duffy who is playing at Salgaocar FC and he has said only good things about the club,’ he concluded. Coincidentally Malky has worked in Asia previously having had a stint with Al Ahli in Dubai and is looking to return to the continent`. Salgaocar FC General Secretary, Mr. Adlear D’Cruz welcoming the Scot remarked, “We are delighted to have someone with Malky’s experience join us and we wish him a successful tenure at the club.” "Malky will add so much to what we are trying to do here at Salgaocar FC,” he added. Last year, the club worked systematically towards following a philosophy that extended from the senior team all the way down to the juniors. The U-19s played several pre-season friendlies against the senior team and the results were there for all to see with Salgaocar FC having made a near clean sweep of the State Association (GFA) titles, having won 5 of the 7 trophies on offer across the senior and junior teams, in addition to claiming the Durand Cup that was played on Goan soil for the first time in it’s prestigious 127 year history. Malky is expected to arrive in Goa by mid-July to take over the reins from Derrick Pereira whose 2-year contract at the club ended this summer.
